General Questions

1. What kind of support does Gottaminute offer?

Gottaminute supports people and organizations to engage conflict more constructively by strengthening communication awareness and shared responsibility.

Depending on what brings you here, that may include Conflict Navigation Coaching, the Conflict Dynamics Profile® (CDP), or another resource that better fits what you need.

You don't need to know which option is right for you before reaching out. The Discovery Session gives us an opportunity to explore what brings you here and consider what may be the most appropriate next step.

2. How can coaching support me when I’m dealing with conflict or a difficult situation?

Coaching creates space to slow down and explore what’s happening so you can deepen your understanding of yourself, the other person, and the situation.

Rather than telling you what to do or solving the situation for you, I support your thinking through thoughtful questions, careful listening, observations, and reflection.

The intention is to help you explore what matters, consider different perspectives, and decide how you want to move forward.

3. How can I better understand the way I respond to conflict?

The Conflict Dynamics Profile® (CDP) is a structured assessment that can help you better understand the behaviours you use when experiencing conflict, as well as the behaviours in others that may trigger a stronger response.

It can increase awareness of patterns you may already recognize and bring attention to responses you may have noticed less.

Gottaminute offers different versions of the CDP for individuals, people seeking feedback from others, and teams.

4. How is coaching different from mediation, therapy, consulting, mentoring, or training?

Mediation is a structured process where a neutral third party supports two or more people in working through a dispute or disagreement together.

Coaching can also be useful addition before mediation to prepare for the conversation, or after mediation to reflect on what happened and consider next steps.

Therapy may focus on mental health, emotional functioning, healing, or treatment within the scope of a qualified mental health professional.

Consulting generally involves an expert assessing a situation and recommending solutions.

Mentoring draws on the mentor’s experience and knowledge to offer guidance.

Training is designed around specific learning objectives and the development of particular knowledge or skills.

Sometimes more than one type of support can be useful. Part of the Discovery Session is considering whether coaching is an appropriate resource for what you’re experiencing.

5. How do I know whether coaching or the Conflict Dynamics Profile® may be useful for me?

You don’t need to know before reaching out.

Coaching may be useful when there is a particular situation, relationship, decision, challenge, or change you want to explore. Depending on what brings you here, that may include Conflict Navigation Coaching or broader Life & Work Coaching.

The Conflict Dynamics Profile® (CDP) may be useful when you want structured information about your conflict behaviours, patterns, and triggers.

Sometimes another Gottaminute service or an external resource may be a better fit. The Discovery Session gives us an opportunity to explore what brings you here and consider the most appropriate next step.

6. What happens during a Discovery Session?

A Discovery Session is a no-pressure conversation where we can meet, explore what brings you here, and consider what kind of support may be useful.

It gives you an opportunity to experience how I work, ask questions, and decide whether you would like to continue.

We’ll also consider:

  • whether coaching, the Conflict Dynamics Profile®, or another resource may be appropriate;
  • whether we’re a good fit to work together; and
  • what the most useful next step may be.

7. How will I know whether Penny is the right coach or practitioner for me?

You may get a sense of fit from how I approach the work, how comfortable you feel in conversation with me, and whether what Gottaminute offers aligns with what you need.

My approach is grounded in respect for the knowledge, strengths, and lived experience you bring. I believe you have the answer within you and are best placed to determine what matters most and how you want to move forward.

The Discovery Session gives us an opportunity to explore whether:

  • we’re a good fit to work together;
  • I’m the right resource for what you need; and
  • the timing is right for us.

You can also learn more about my background, experience, and approach on the Meet Penny page.

8. Is coaching confidential?

Confidentiality is an important part of the coaching relationship. Before coaching begins, we’ll discuss confidentiality, its limits, and the agreements that apply to our work together so there is an understanding of how information is handled.

9. What professional standards and protections guide your coaching practice?

I am a Professional Member in good standing with the Universal Coaching Alliance and work in accordance with its professional standards, including its Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics and coaching competency framework.

I also maintain professional and general liability insurance.
